NOW Projects - getting change done!

There are as many ways to make change, as there are people willing to step up to make it happen. It is not our difference but our disconnection that undermines our efforts. Check out the projects below that have joined forces with NOW Lunenburg County:

Now Lunenburg County Youth Initiative
Inviting young people to add their voice to the Now Lunenburg County initiative, to become engaged in the process and, ideally, enabling and supporting young people to be actively involved in positive choices and the change it will bring to their County. We want young people in Lunenburg County to be empowered citizens, to feel like they are involved in something bigger than themselves, and to fundamentally feel that they can make a difference for the better in their own communities - and beyond.

OHC – Our Health Centre
To raise the funds to build a community health centre to serve the residents of the Municipality of the District of Chester, the Hubbards area and the Tancook Islands.  The vision is of a facility that not only treats sickness but addresses the root causes of obesity, chronic disease (diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, and cancer), mental illness, and other medical issues, by creating supports to help people live healthier happier lives.

Ross Farm Museum Heritage Learning Centre –
Community partnerships
The New Ross District Museum Society is fundraising to build a new Heritage Skills Learning Centre in New Ross, Nova Scotia. We anticipate breaking ground this summer. We are looking at ways to partner in the community: use community resources and skills to build programs at the Centre; create cottage industries and create a “critical mass” of heritage learning opportunities in the county.

Municipal Government Re-imagined
Working to bring municipal government representatives and the public together to re-imagine how we are governed. This could lead to amalgamation but more hopefully to a better maybe entirely new way to govern and connect the community.

Universities and Lunenburg County Partnerships

Nova Scotia is blessed with many outstanding universities, thousands of professors and students and millions of dollars in research funding.  Yet there is very little mutually beneficial activity between Lunenburg County and the Universities.  This project will explore ways in which Lunenburg County and the universities can work together.

Village as a Venue
We are exploring how Mahone Bay can be a venue for conferences and conventions. We have all the facilities, accommodation and catering to offer a unique boutique product i the market place. The long term plan would be to develop a business concept that could be replicated across rural communities as part of building vibrant economies.

Bluenose Coast
Vision: To be the voice of collaboration to grow a healthy year-round economy while sustaining the unique cultural and natural environment of the Bluenose Coast. Our main goal is to develop and promote enticing “things to do” that will give non-residents a reason to come to our community to spend money, which we see as the first step in economic development.

Bluenose Coast is a registered not-for-profit association formed in partnership by community leaders in the region, which extends from Peggy’s Cove area to Broad Cove and inland to New Ross and includes the icons of Peggy’s Cove and the UNESCO Town of Lunenburg.
Mash up Lab
Mashup Lab is a series of startup events and mentorship programs focused on ACTIVATING and AMPLIFYING the startup community in rural markets in Atlantic Canada, starting on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Check out the website.

Community Investment Fund
The Lunenburg Community Fund will be designed to direct local investment capital into startups and social action in our community. Where most investment and philanthropic capital from the area gets invested in larger markets, there is surely an opportunity for some portion of that money to be invested locally to see great things happen in our home community. There are multiple local entrepreneurs who are sitting on great ideas for a new business or a impactful social project who just need that first seed of financing - we can solve that!
Art Happening
To create a space which will be open and accessible to artists of all types to drop in and practice and share their art.  It would be a social outlet for artists to meet one another.  It would be a place inviting to families.

Youth Engagement
Our goal is to create engaging, fun and interesting events for young people in Lunenburg County. These can range from musical events, themed events, workshops, speakers etc…

"I’m very proud to say that Mashup Lab is connected to this effort. I can say, with confidence, that I would not be dreaming as big or acting as quickly if I didn’t know that the support of this group was behind me."
