Mashup Lab (www.mashuplab.ca) - a series of startup events and mentorship programs focused on activating and amplifying the startup community in rural areas, starting with the South Shore of Nova Scotia. The purpose: to inspire people to put their startup ideas in to action and then support them as they embark on their startup journey.
We had nearly 30 people out to our Mashup Lab Lightning Talk with Blair Ryan, Co-Founder and CEO of The Rounds. We are currently experimenting with three different formats of mentorship programs. Currently there are two startups engaged in our mentorship programs.
It is amazing to see the types of startups that are beginning to engage. For example, everyone who attended our last event, "What is a Lean Canvas?" with Alastair Jarvis are currently working on startups. Everything from a new predicative data analytics product for enterprise, to a new alternative energy product (really cool, using used coffee grounds…he is in a Mashup Lab mentorship program right now), to a new customer experience app for big retail, to a pediatrist that is working on a new life science product.
The Mashup Lab Lighting Talk series continues with Gillian McCrea of GetGifted. Gillian is an amazing young enrepreneur with a brilliant story to tell - going from local restaurant owner to a startup founder raising over $400,000 in equity investment…all in just over 12 months. Come out and hear how she did it! Here are the details:
Ever see an empty building in your town and thought to yourself… “wow, wouldn’t that building make a good café? An art gallery? A youth centre? A music shop?”
Here’s your chance to share your dreams and vision around what you want to see in Bridgewater.
The Bridgewater Development Association is hosting the I Wish I Was event on
June 25, 2014 from 4 to 6 pm
The event will showcase vacant buildings downtown along King Street. Many empty buildings will be open to the public during this time.
The “I Wish I Was" concept is a fun and accessible way to find out from the local community what people would like to see happening around town, particularly with vacant buildings. This would be an opportune time to let your imagination run wild with ideas, and “think outside the box”. The public will be encouraged to write down what they wish the vacant space contained (i.e. an Art Gallery).
- Thank -you to Lighthouse Media Group for sponsoring this event!
Also as part of Now Lunenburg County, the Bridgewater Art Hive initiative will be setting up a ‘pop-up Art hive’ in the LaHave Furnishings building during the event. Please stop by, create a piece of art and share your ideas about what you would like to see in the Art Hive that’s coming!
